Update: Read our follow-up article that explains Copān in full.

Mysterious posters promoting an augmented reality game called Copān have suddenly appeared across Dublin city today.

The posters, which are appearing on ground level billboards at rail, Luas and bus stops, show a Myan-style image of a QR code along with the words,

Play the smartphone game and decode the ancient secrets of the Myan civilisation. Earn points and win prizes by finding hidden tombs and buried treasure.

Win South American Holiday for two, iPads, Notebooks, Tablets, TV’s[sic], Games Consoles, Smartphones and much, much more…

The QR code invites users to sign up to the “Augmented reality treasure hunt” at the game’s website find.copan.ie to be granted an invite to take part in the competition. (Unfortunately the Qr code is unreadable by Android phones). The game apparently runs from November 30 to December 12.

No further details are given about the event although it is sponsored by The Carphone Warehouse, Bravo (an advertising company), 98fm and ScreenClick. None of these sites have further details.

If you have any information about Copān let us know.
