BBC iPlayer app coming next month

BBC iPlayer, the popular catch-up service from the BBC, is reportedly releasing a dedicated iOS app next month. The app will work on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

According to PaidContent an unnamed source has confirmed that the app will become available for download in Apple’s App Store sometime in February. BBC iPlayer is still unavailable on iOS devices as Apple continues to refuse to support the required browser Flash plugin on its devices.

The app was previously scheduled for release towards to the end of 2010 but had been delayed while the BBC Trust re-evaluated their mobile device applications strategy.

Unfortunately there doesn’t yet appear to be any plans in place for a similar Android, Blackberry, or Windows Mobile app.
