Digitise the Nation 2011 – Campaign to get more Irish people online

Continuing on from the success of last year’s Digitise the Nation campaign, the Irish Internet Association (IIA) are staging another such event next month from Monday May 9th to Friday May 13th. The main aim of the event is to “help get everyone online”.

The IIA are calling on all Irish businesses, community groups, schools, colleges, clubs, individuals, bloggers, and social media experts to help think of innovative ways to get more people online. It is hoped that the skills and capabilities required to make the campaign a success can be crowd-sourced from Ireland’s talented and growing pool of interent savvy users.

“This is a chance to show how the internet can make life easier, more fulfilling and more fun. We can show people that the internet is the ultimate communication medium and that communication isn’t one-way or two-way but every way!”

Ideas to get people using technology, gadgets, and predominantly the internet are wide-ranging, as seen in the array of events held throughout Digitise the Nation week last year. PuddleDucks created The Online-Outdoor Family Quiz, a fun, online treasure hunt encompassing many family parks. Dublin City Council and Age Action Ireland hosted computer and mobile phone usage lessons in Dublin City Libraries titled “Getting Started”, while Krishna De and Ann Donnelly ran a free webinar for entrepreneurs called “7 Essential Steps for Marketing Your New Business Online”.

Check out the Digitise the Nation (#dtn11) website to find out more or to register your own event.
