Google Drive launching next week with 5GB of free storage

Google Drive leaked screenshot

Google Drive will launch next week, most likely next Tuesday or Wednesday, and offer 5GB of free storage, according to the good folks at TNW.

At 5GB of free storage, Google’s long-awaited cloud storage service would trump Dropbox’s free offering by a sizable 3GB.

A leaked screenshot published by Talk Android suggests that Google Drive will launch on desktop, mobile phone and tablet from day one. This would include Windows and Mac OS folder integration, Android and iOS apps, and of course browser access.

API access from day one is another possibility, allowing third-party services to interact with files stored on Google Drive.

It’s exciting to think of the possibilities that Google can offer with Google Drive – Gmail and Google Docs integration, or even integration with YouTube or Google+ so that media content stored in Google Drive could be available to publish immediatedly.

  • Wow. Been waiting for this for about 6-7 years! I'm a big Dropbox fan (I'm up to 6GB free with referrals), but if the offering is as seamless as Dropbox I'll give it a shot.
