Internet Explorer may be coming to the Xbox

An adapted version of Internet Explorer may be arriving on the Xbox 360 later this year, bringing a true web browsing experience to one of Microsoft’s most successful products for the first time.

The Verge reports that, according to their own sources, Microsoft is currently testing a tailored version of Internet Explorer on its Xbox 360 entertainment console, and may even reveal details of such at this year’s E3 event in June.

Internet Explorer for Xbox will feature integrated Kinect gestures and voice control, allowing users to perform a Bing search, for example, by speaking commands or browse back and forward through web pages using only hand gestures.

Kinect won’t be the only way to control the browser but, as seen with the PS3, doing so with a normal console controller gets very cumbersome, very quickly.

  • Using a browser on a device like the Xbox or a smart TV might sound nice, but using them is far from easy
